This is bullshit. Although Kate Moss should likely stop using cocaine; why do we all care so much about her habit. and as if the executives at the large fashion houses have the gall to fire her for the cocaine use they undoubtedly introduced her to! the self-righteousness makes me ill.

today is my mother's birthday. if you go to my home page, there will be a photo tributing her. i owe her my life and my upbringing, so happy birthday mom! anyway, i woke up this morning, and realized that the district hasn't had bad weather since i've been here. only twice since i moved down in late july has it rained. i still don't own an umbrella, and unlike that phenomenon in seattle, here it seems a little strange. my understanding of the region as swampish is confirmed daily by humidity levels, but no rain. perhaps a cavalier meterologist feels like explaining it to me? four new papers were uploaded today. i think at various points they were previously availble, but in case you hadn't noticed, my updating skills waned in the transition period. anyway they are available. More will come soon, likely fiction though. i will also start posting a weekly thing i'll be doing with my grandparents, all in french. we'll see how those go. some more stuff with go down on the site in the coming weeks. i hope to add a photo album, though i'm not sure if this server will hold the files. we'll see how the construction goes. i suppose the one sad thing about this site is the serious lack of animation. not that the other design had serious animation going on. we'll see what this means for the photo album. i deal with politics all day now, so i'm often less inclined to come home and blather about it. but basically, john roberts' confirmation hearings this week were pretty interesting. i'm glad i was able to hear/watch them myself so i could see just how much gushing the republicans were acutally doing, and how much so-called grilling the acquiescent democrats had going on. it was a relatively respectful hearings process. good for democracy and all that jazz. it's funny, you know, because john g roberts jr. seems to have grasped, very well i might add, the major disconnect between the law and life. that there can be a difference between what is "true in the law" and "true in fact" seems preposterous, and though i appreciate the need for this relationship, it doesn't feel right or just. which is the point of social order and the rule of law, isn't it?

another day a new design. i know i just updated the site when it came back online, but i thought that was ugly. i think this will only be temporary as well, but i like it more. at least for now. soon i'll be adding some new features, which will hopefully make the site look and use better as well. life in the district is moving along quite nicely. it's a very enjoyable atmosphere, and there is generally good weather - HUGE BONUS POINTS!!!! Max is, of course, loving it, and getting lots of attention as he always does. often it's from me, but strangers love him too.

my web server has been broken for a few weeks, but apparently we are back in business now! check the last few posts, which haven't been visible because of this mini crisis. this is actually the first time in over 5 years with this host that something like this has happened. so despite the slow recover and the three week downtime, i'm going to stay with them. at least until i stop being a cheap-ass and get a better domain name. i've been trying to think of new ones, but i can't come up with one. i'm sure it will come in a dream. or my dog will tell me about it.
