a recent exchange i had: Re: why environment canada is full of it Quoting "Thibault, Sean": Find it here here's a snippet: "Most smoke and haze days: New Brunswick Sunniest year-round: Saskatchewan Sunniest summers: Northwest Territories Sunniest winters: New Brunswick Windiest year-round: Nunavut Most hours with low visibility: Nova Scotia Hottest summer: New Brunswick" -----Original Message----- From: L-bone Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2005 1:19 PM To: Thibault, Sean Subject: Re: why environment Canada is full of it You got me started... First off, I am glad that the CBC, lockout in full effect, uses its scarce resources to report the most recent findings of David Phillips. Also, EC seems to have a lot of time on its hands, and David and fellow geeks have turned this into a sort of weather Olympics...see here: http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/weather/winners/provincial-territorial-home-e.html The Times and Transcript ran a front-page article about this today, showcasing, in particular, that New Brunswick has the hottest summers. As David uses our country's ridiculous political boundaries as parameters, and as Ontario is laden with weather stations up north, we get stupid output like this. Almost every Ontarian enjoys a hotter summer than every single New Brunswicker, but a few don't, and theirs weigh in more heavily. This is the kind of representation that chronically under-represented northern Ontario would love to have in Parliament! Note that David's largely useless study also tells us that NB has the most humidex days and the most cooling-degree days, yet not really the summer weather to show for it. This data is further contradicted by the assertion that NB ranks 12 out of 13 in the category "most humid summer." Some findings may seem surprising but are undoubtedly true. NB's smoke and haze days are a gift from our friends in New England, the Midwest, and Ontario. Climate data tells us that NB is also far sunnier than any other province in the winter -- just not in Sackville. So basically, David tells us what we can figure out for ourselves by reading a map. Your tax dollars at work.

well, it's been such a long time since i last posted... but this is what happens when you move and lose your internet connection for a while. Now i'm in Washington, DC - not yet cozy and settled, but here nonetheless - and can revive things. apparently my old server also decided to fuck off a little, so i don't really understand that. sent them an email a couple weeks back. after 8 years, you figure a service is reliable, and then they just disappear. i guess you can do that with free accounts. haha. which brings me to my next point. i am trying to come up with a regular domain name for me to use. I suppose I can go with www.drawstring.??? but i am not sure if i'm feeling the drawstring anymore. mostly i use it because it avoids the need for me to come up with something else. i certainly have a few choices, but we'll see how it all pans out, i guess. send your suggestions my way! sean|AT|drawstring.port5.com
