this is just another example of teck cominco's commitment to the people of trail, bc. there have long been complaints about unsafe water due to lead exposure. when i was in trail in 2002, employees were trying to figure out how to keep their jobs, while getting the company to improve its health and safety standards. it appears that the fight continues. here is information on their environmental record. as recently as nov 2004 teck cominco was trying to evade liability under US law for pollution that has affected native tribes downstream in the US. Obviously there are some interesting sovereignty issues here. Teck Cominco strongly defends its environmental practices as state-of-the-art and industry leading. can they add their employment practices to this stellar record?

today, while i listened to Stuart McLean hosting the Vinyl Cafe from his camp, he prompted camper Sophie Doyle to sing "Leaving on a Jet Plane." I wonder if I was just nostalgic for my own camp experiences and those familiar renditions of that very song, or if I actually didn't like hers. Is that too mean?
